Morris hears a chorus of angels Arranging the light that dangles Into his retirement home room. One brings him dinner And he asks her to stay over She says, "Sign for it." "What should I write?" what she says: [Write your name on the line] what he hears: [Write whatever you want]
2.
Husband to paramedic: Like I told her, it's just gas. Wife to paramedic: Oh, you know how he likes his hot dogs and beer when he's watching football.
3.
fuck it let's try it let's sticks together like beads of water let's have have a daughter let's name her Oscar and wonder no more and don't drop the balloon because it rises etc. dear god, send me a blond reincarnation of Jacqueline Onassis let her drive aimless with me in square rim glasses etc.
4.
At the end of January Janet showed in the obituary surviving her - her two kids and Dr. Leifer her husband. Don't cry.

Magic Eye 02:29
the dog is old and biting oh no oh no oh no the spark of love has lost its lightning oh no now your days are never ending oh no oh no oh no and tomorrow you'll be cold oh no there's no hidden lines I'm not like a magic eye so please stop staring at me it's rude
7.
So that was love? [I read all about it] Newspaper headline says [they're alcoholics] Naw, we're just drunk [on false hopes and white lies] So, that was love. [I guess that explains the flies] Hey, no hard feelings baby, it was the best decision I never made.
8.
"LSD" "Did your wife eat or dink anything?" "She had a drink"
9.
Sometimes at night I hear her say things it gets so loud I wonder if I am dreaming so I call back because I can't understand the weeping I open my eyes to find her still sleeping and I'm stuck wondering what's really happening So I search around under the covers to put my hand in hers to give her comfort and I'm careful not to wake her when my hand reaches her she rolls over and a moment later she wraps her legs in mine Maybe because sometimes I feel so ugly I tell myself it's just a game of pity Maybe cuz she's so frail and pretty I think that when she gets to know me that she will surely leave I know I'm no Elvis Presley and if I sing a melody thousands of girls won't scream when I make a record I don't make a dime but you, you don't seem to mind Because you still choose to sleep next to me My sleeping beauty
10.
[Emergency Noises] Morris is rushed [Phone Rings] Family is notified [Paramedics Talk] Job well done [Big Drums] Morris starts doing his rounds at the hospital
11.
(Archangel) 05:13
It's hard enough to pretend you understand things as complex as Religion or Love I can't claim that I've ever really believed in anything I can't feel see or touch But it started off simple enough: a friend of mine was killed by a car He was just a kid - so were we all - but now he'll never be an adult So I'm in Jr. High and start to wonder why God would let this happen I give up on Heaven and Love and Mercy for the innocent Now it's been 10 years since the death and the tears - I can't remember - where is the grave? His face is now fuzzy in my memory, and all I have left is his name. All I have left is a name All I have left is his name

14.
Morris hears the docs talking in the hallway, and remembers where/who he is... but then forgets.
15.
Is your daughter sleepin' the thought is keepin' you awake so you go to check in on her and she's gone you've done this before you've forgotten she's moved out in '84. In fact this ain't your house it's an old folks apartment and this is the part when you remember that you're alone your wife has passed on and your children refuse to visit you. [rage building] You've had enough of this tough old folks mattress you're going to break out and go marry an actress but first get a good nights rest in a hotel bed Stop taking pill get drunk call up your children and tell them they're out of the will etc
16.
Morris hears a chorus of angels rearranging the light that dangles through the window and they sing too and they sing to him and they sing too and they sing to him "Write whatever you want"
17.
Can you help me cuz I'm swimmin in a sea of lies Can you help me cuz I'm blind but I see the light Can you help me cuz I really wanna take my own life Can you help me cuz I'm swimmin in a sea of light

about

"The Life and Times of Dr. Morris Leifer" was mostly written and recorded between 2008 and 2009. The album was put on hold for other projects and not picked back up until December of 2010, and at that point the finishing touches were added, some extra things were recorded and it was finally finished.

This album is mostly a concept album about a sick and elderly man in a retirement home, with other songs about confusion, anger, regret, and oddities that fit the mood of the album, or fit what I think Morris would have stressed about in years past.

Morris is loosely based on a real person with the same name. Julie worked at a retirement home for quite some time and told me many stories about the elderly folk she had to deal with. Her favorite was a man with little to no memory left named Morris.

The album is told from different story tellers, and held together by retro daytime drama sound clips (which seemed suiting) but mostly tells the story of the final days of a man whose memory and sense of reality comes and goes without warning.

For whatever reason, I really felt like I could relate to that feeling at the time. Sometimes I envied Morris, and sometimes pitied him, or just wished he would pass on to whatever was next.

After the songs just sat around for nearly two years, and I kept on writing more, decided it would be best to throw them all together in the "Sounds" collection as a semi-cohesive body of music for human consumption.

about

Shaun W. Detroit

Shaun W. (fka Matilda) is meant to be more of a musical documentation of life events rather than a marketable musical cash cow.

It is the mostly solo, ever changing, ongoing musical project of Shaun Wisniewski.
Songs are mostly folk-y and noisy. They also have flourishes of electronic beats, sound collage, and synth. For the most part the songs are poorly produced, and that’s fine.
